Locate and mark positions of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors. Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools. Cutting and threading pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine. Bends pipe to required angles by use of specialized tools. Work with all types of pipe composed of various materials, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solders, plastic solvent, and caulk joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressures gauges to determine whether the system is leaking Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures. Repairs and maintains plumbing fixtures and water lines, waste and vent stacks. Welding on gas lines and hangers when needed for installing and repair.


  • Possesses a clear understanding and detail knowledge of the associated tools and equipment and their maintenance requirements, nomenclature and types of plumbing materials and supplies, technical manuals and procedures, safety procedures, and equipment and shop records.
  • Use shop tools, including operating tools and machines to bend, thread, cut and hang cast iron, PVC, and copper piping.
  • Install and repair plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Cut openings in walls or floors for pipes, cuts, reams, thirds, and bends pipes; installs connects fixtures and facilities such as hydrants, water mains, water closets, lavatories, showers, and sinks.
  • Inspect and test piping after completing repairs, alterations, and additions.
  • Tile, caulk, and seals elbows, unions, joints and fixtures.
